Last September 29, at the Nexus event organized by Google in San Francisco, the Mountain View giant not only officially presented its new smartphones Nexus, LG Nexus 5x, a new HDMI dongle Chromecast, Huawei Nexus 6p, but also announced the new Family subscription plan for Unlimited music streaming service Google Play Music. Starting from 10 December, Family plan is officially activated, but only in some countries.
Just as advanced by leaked in the hours leading up to the event #Nexus2015, Google announced the new Family subscription plan for its streaming music service Play Music in order to better compete in the market against Apple, Spotify and Rdio services among many that already offer a plan designed to save families.
In particular, Google Play Music Unlimited Family plan is available, priced at $14.99 per month, provides access to the music service for 6 friends and/or relatives, each with its own independent account: to pay $14.99 will only be the master account.
Google, even if they don’t want to believe, they copied the same Apple Music subscription: Cupertino giant’s service as the main account is for 6 users. Family plan instead, Spotify to charge half each additional account associated with the principal.
One of the main advantages that music listeners have chosen Apple Music instead of Google Play Music or Spotify’s own piano Family, advantageous if considered that with 15 euros per month can listen to music for up to six people, each with its own independent of the others. Now that Google has launched a family plan for its music service, Apple Music listeners might think to go to the Google service (although it is fair to point out that the sound quality is worse AAC for Apple vs MP3 for Google).
Customers who have an active Family account with Play Music (the principal pays $14.99 per month and binds up five more accounts which are free) have independent access to the 35 million audio tracks that Google offers and no ads-independent means that each account has its own musical preferences, customization, playlists, etc. The music can be played through applications for Android and iOS or Play Music through the website.
To make a price comparison, if you are Apple users pay $14.99 Family Music subscription overall; six Google users Play Music with Family subscription pay $14.99 overall; six users pay $34.94 overall Spotify with Family membership ($9.99 + 4.99 for each linked account).
Since Google Play Music subscription is linked to Youtube RED (active only in the United States), all members of the Family subscription have access to Youtube music videos without ads and can choose to watch them online or offline.
The new Play Music Family Plan has been active since December 10 in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, France and Germany, which will add more countries coming soon.
